Hobby Fair

The Rotary Club of Colombo in association with Sri Lanka Anti Narcotics Association (SLANA) held the first and ever Trade Fair and Exhibition of Hobbies.  A spark of interest can be the first step to greatness. This spark is what the Rotary Club of Colombo and SLANA hoped to generate in Sri Lanka through �Hobby Fair 2010�. We believe that the younger generation is in need of an avenue to express their creativity and talents.

Children in today�s society have seen little but anger and violence. Therefore, they tend to turn to less than ideal means of passing time such as drugs, alcohol abuse and other unfavorable activities.

Today�s youth needs something more. With the world advancing as fast as it is, they need to be constantly stimulated to keep their young minds busy. It is our job to give them what they need to identify and take their talent however small to greater heights. We believe that all children are special and have their own individual talents and passions that can be turned into a hobby. Even the smallest hobby could be the difference for a more well-balanced and brighter future. 

Participants were able to showcase their own hobbies from the traditional stamp collecting, quilting and painting to the more diverse hobbies like body piercing, electronics and graffiti art. Not only did this exhibition help bring their hard work to the lime light but also to inspire young people to take their own talents and turn it into a hobby that has the potential to enrich their lives. In addition, an essay competition on Hobbies for school children was held. The fair featured a series of presentations and workshops on different hobbies giving away valuable insights, tips and advice.
